Every company is now digital and needs to embrace technology, says a new report.

All companies are now digital and directors should be open to technology, a new report has said.

Social media, mobile and cloud computing and web analytics have combined to radically alter how businesses operate, according to Accenture’s Technology Vision 2013 report.

Companies that embrace this technology, it says, will be better placed to exploit new opportunities and gain ground on their competitors.

To do so, many companies may need to call on the expertise of external contractors and freelance workers, especially in the IT and digital media industries.

The report calls for increasingly active attitudes to IT security, especially as the use of a wider range of devices leads to more potential points of access.

In addition, the report authors recommend a shift in approach towards software-defined networking to allow better adaptability to technological change without the repeated expense of replacing or upgrading hardware. They also suggest that companies grow their interest in real time analytics and in-memory computing.
